Joseph William Jauernig, 80, Lansing Kansas, passed away at his home, Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019. He was born in Louisburg, Kansas, March 13, 1938, the son of Paul and Rose (Noll) Jauernig.
Joe spent most of his life in Lansing and was an active member of the National Guard. He owned and operated Joe’s Excavating Inc. He loved tractors of any kind and participated many times in the local tractor pull contest. He also was a regular racer at the Lakeside Speedway. His greatest love was his pets and all animals. Teasing his nieces and nephews was a full-time job at all family gatherings, as well as taking them for rides on his tractors. His large gardens each year allowed him to supply the family and neighborhood with fresh produce.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rose Jauernig.
He is survived by two step-daughters, Billie Sue Conklin and Sheryl Kelly, both of Clearwater, Florida; three brothers, Edward Jauernig (Ruth), Leavenworth, John Jauernig (Sandy), Leavenworth, Francis Leo Jauernig (Sandy), Lenexa; and four sisters, Mary Louise Fink, Eloy, Arizona, Rose Marie White (Albert), Leavenworth, Sister Paula Rose Jauernig, Sister of Charity of Leavenworth and Helen Irene Schalipp (Clifford), Tijeras, New Mexico.
Visitation beginning with praying the rosary will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials suggested to St Francis de Sales Building Fund.
