Ingeborg “Inge” Cochran, 83, Leavenworth, passed away, Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019. She was born June 20, 1935, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Hans and Elsa Potenberg.
Inge was united in marriage to Thomas V. Cochran in 1963, at the Evangelische Gemeindshafts Kirche in Stuttgart, Germany. As a devoted and loving military wife, Inge supported all her husband’s endeavors in the United States Armed Forces, which included two tours in Vietnam.
Inge was a bi-lingual (German/English) executive secretary for over 20 years. As a young woman, Inge translated a movie for American film producer Andrew Solt, in Stuttgart. Upon transfer to Fort Leavenworth in the early 1980s with her family, Inge began her illustrious career in real estate as a realtor associate and relocation specialist with both Century 21 and Reilly and Sons. She served two terms as Director on the Leavenworth Board of Realtors and one term on the Leavenworth Board of Realtors MLS Committee. Her outgoing personality touched many people and continued as she started her third career as a fine artist. Painting became her passion. Inge participated in juried art shows in both Kansas and Missouri, receiving numerous awards for her paintings and photography. Her artwork is displayed around the world.
Inge was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth, having served on the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and Administrative Committee. She was also a member of the Leavenworth County Artists Association, Leavenworth Arts Council, Greater Kansas City Artists Association, Missouri Water Color Society, American Business Women’s Association – Lady Liberty Chapter, Leavenworth/Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce – Women’s Division and National Association of Professional Women. Her community service included working with the Leavenworth Election Board, community clean ups, and wherever needed. In 1987, Inge was named “Woman of the Year” by the Lady Liberty Chapter of ABWA, the same award received by her daughter, Barbara, 25 years later from the ABWA Sterling Chapter of Jefferson City, Missouri.
Traveling around Europe and the United States was an exciting aspect of Inge’s life. She loved to experience different cultures and Inge’s love for people was a wonderful addition to her family life. She lived a full, exciting and rewarding life, and has peacefully gone Home to her Heavenly Father.
Left to celebrate Inge’s life and mourn her passing are her husband, Thomas, Leavenworth; and her daughter, Barbara Cochran, Jefferson City, Missouri.
A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth with Rev. Dr. Dave York officiating. Burial will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Leavenworth. Arrangements entrusted to R.L.
