Anna Beth Beard died on April 5, 2019 after a VERY interesting life. She was born in Durango, Colorado into a busy and progressive family background. After several moves her parents came to Leavenworth, Kansas where he would be manager of Montgomery WARDS. After many successful years her dad was promoted into Kanas City to a Ward’s on Ward’s Parkway, south of the Plaza. Sadly, on the second day a drunk driver killed him on his way home to Leavenworth. Anna Beth had just finished Stephens College in Columbia so she came home to live with her mom who continued doing volunteer work at Cushing Hospital. After several other jobs she got one with many promotions at Armed Forces Insurance for about 15 years.

Anna Beth and her mom went to church in Kansas City and her mom finally got remarried to a widower there and Anna Beth was alone in the house her father had built. An older fellow, Ron Beard, came to her church about twice a year to share about the overseas mission work he pursued and he “noticed her” until they got engaged and married on August 10, 1990.

They went together for ministry to India about 20 times, and also to Japan Mexico, Brazil and Peru. Many were trained for successful ministry in their own countries. Between overseas ministries Anna Beth went back to short term classes and gradually earned a CPA.

Beginning in about 2008 we began to focus on home-based ministries like nursing home and inmate ministries, both doing and training others to do them. It was helpful that our ministry partners continued and took part in the changes which did reach out to many unreached. We both loved the new focus and anticipated many years of it for the help of others. We also anticipated that in the distant future we would add live in nursing home ministry, “but not yet.”

Gradually life became more difficult for Anna Beth and it eventually required moving into the “Twin Oaks” recovery facility which took care of her declining condition with kindness until the end. While continuing our local ministries until the end I was also able to sleep on a recliner beside her and help with some care needs like feeding, etc. Though declining, Anna Beth was wonderful and I encouraged her to anticipate with joy seeing her family in heaven soon.

Celebration of Life will be held at Church of the Open Door, 4800 S. 20th Street Trafficway, Leavenworth, Kansas, on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 2 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in Kingman, Kansas.  Condolences may be left on Anna Beth’s online guestbook at Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel.
