Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Charles Thomas “Tom” Calloway, 77, passed away in his home on May 15, 2019. A career Army officer and Vietnam veteran, Tom served his country through various deployments around the world including The Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Thailand, and Korea. He was awarded many military medals to include the Bronze Star with Valor and an Oak Leaf Cluster and a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster.
Tom was born on Dec. 9, 1941, in Washington, D.C., to Maj. Gen. Charles G. and Marion Calloway. Following completion of ROTC and graduation from the University of Richmond, he was commissioned as a U.S. Army 2nd Lt. in the Infantry and first assigned to the 5th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado.
In 1970, he met his future wife, Emma S. Calloway, while stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and they married at Fort Myers, Virginia, in 1971.
Tom always amused his family and friends with his witty sense of humor and was a beloved husband and father who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Emma Calloway; his daughters, Roberta Calloway, Carie Calloway Anderson (Brian) and Audra Calloway; five grandchildren; and his sisters, Celia Hancock and Nancy Peery.
Visitation will be, 5-7 p.m., May 23, 2019, at Davis Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be held 12:30 p.m., May 28, 2019 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
