Jennifer Lynn Smith, 68, Leavenworth, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at her home.

Jennifer Lynn Smith, 68, Leavenworth, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at her home. She was born April 11, 1951, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the daughter of Col. (Ret.) Joseph Donald and Gayle Lorraine (Evenson) Hynes.
Being a child in a military family allowed her the privilege of living in many different places including Panama and Germany. She enjoyed many friends from Armed Forces Insurance and MacArthur Elementary School at Fort Leavenworth.
She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia, and then went on to college at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Jennifer returned to Leavenworth after the death of her mother to help her father with her three younger siblings. She then met the love of her life, Larry Marvin Smith of Leavenworth in 1977. They married in 1982 and spent 37 years together. He survives at the home.
Jennifer is also survived by two stepsons, Randy (Rene) Smith and Jeffrey (Angela) Smith, Lenexa, Kansas; a stepdaughter, Michele (Wally) Wondrack, Lawrence, Kansas; a brother, Jay Hynes, Leavenworth; three sisters, Kristine (Skeet) Mims and Susan (Bob) Manche, both of St. Peters, Missouri and Lisa (Jaime) Luckett, Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jennifer was a member of the Leavenworth Country Club Women’s Golf Association where she received various awards over the years.
She enjoyed golfing, shopping, spending time at the lake, lots of jewelry and changing her hair color often. Jennifer also had a love for cats, reading and poetry.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A celebration of life will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
