Lisa Jane Loewen, 55, Leavenworth, Kansas, died on June 23, 2019. She was born Dec. 2, 1963 in Grundy Center, Iowa. She is survived by her mother and father, Verlene Horbach and Ron Harbach (wife Pam); her husband, SFC Rex A. Loewen; her children, Alia Loewen-Friedley (husband Aaron), Ayla, Lyle (wife Ema) and Molly; and a granddaughter, Livia; her siblings, Lance Horbach, Lori Sirman, Lon Horbach, twin brother, Larry Horbach and Lee Horbach; and her beloved dog, Bandit.
No combination of words or prose are sufficient enough to capture the totality of her life. Lisa was a loving mother and devoted wife. She travelled the world, raised four children and gave a helping hand. She will forever be known for her selflessness and compassion for others.
Lisa served as an Army Wife for 24 years, during which she received the Mary E. Walker Award for exemplary volunteerism. Her support for Soldiers and their Families was unparalleled.
Lisa loved poetry, and even found the time to publish a book of poems, The Inspiration of a Family.
In her later years, Lisa settled down in Leavenworth, Kansas, where she assumed the mantle of “Mama Loewen” to the numerous Fort Leavenworth High School JROTC cadets she mentored. Lisa happily embraced the role of Mrs. Claus in the town’s annual Christmas festivities. When she wasn’t busy baking bread for a neighbor in need or collecting donations for local food banks, she enjoyed gardening, canning, morning coffee with friends, and Friday night Bingo.
With her last breath, Lisa continued the tradition of giving through the gift of organ and tissue donation.
Visitation will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Belden Larkin Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 11 a.m.
