Mathias David "Matt" Massoth was born in Fulda, Germany March 25, 1963. He passed away July 5, 2019 in Leavenworth after an extended illness of congestive heart failure.
He is survived by his parents, Arthena C. Massoth and Mathias J. Massoth, rural Leavenworth and his siblings, Cynthia A. McMurtrey, Lawrence, Angela M. Conrad, Kansas City, and Rebecca L. They were married 22 years, and Birgitt was the love of his life. The family wishes to acknowledge his loyal and lifetime friends, Clayton Bollin and Doug Kermachek.
Matt was an avid Chiefs and Royals fan. He was also a knowledgeable history buff who could quote Civil War and WWII battle and campaign details. His love for music and writing music was undeniable.
He came to Leavenworth as a five year old Army Brat, attended Ben Day, Nettie Hartnett and East Jr. High. He was a proud graduate of Immaculata High, class of 1981. His early years were spent playing in local bands, Horizon, Revenge, Monkey Junk, and One Eyed Jacks as a lead vocalist and guitar player. He was a manager at Plumber's Friend for 20 years. His last employment was at Nordstroms as a maintenance supervisor.
Matt's life passions were his music and pets - some of which he rescued. Matt had a special gift of being able to communicate with the elderly, oftentimes spending hours with veterans listening to their stories. He also had a quick wit and loved sharing his unique sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, Matt would want you to donate to LAWS (Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society) or to Leavenworth Interfaith Community of Hope shelter for the homeless.
Matt will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His artistry and intellect were his gift to the world. His devotion of generosity was beyond exceptional and he would give his last dollar to the needy and unfortunate.
