Phyllis Louise Hammer, 69, Leavenworth, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Lansing Care and Rehabilitation Center after battling cancer.
Phyllis Louise Hammer, 69, Leavenworth, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Lansing Care and Rehabilitation Center after battling cancer. Phyllis was born on Dec. 20, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas, to Vernon and Helen (Flattery) Hammer.
She enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 27, 1969 during the Vietnam War and served our country for more than 10 years. Phyllis worked at the University of St. Mary’s at the Mother House cafeteria in food service enjoying her work greeting and serving the Sisters of Charity.
She is survived by her brother, Larry and his wife, Gail, nieces, Susan (Michael) Garner, Catherine Hammer and nephew, Howard (Elizabeth) Hammer, great nephew, Asher Garner and great niece, Autumn Garner.
A visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Michael Garner, officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
