Helen Lea Schwartz, 81, Leavenworth, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Helen Lea Schwartz, 81, Leavenworth, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Nicholas and Helen Navinsky.
On April 11, 1959, Helen married Henry J. “Junior” Schwartz at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Leavenworth. He preceded her in death Jan. 6, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Lea Schwartz; and two great-grandchildren, Faith and Max Schermbeck.
Helen is survived by six children, Janet (Mark) Klasinski, Nick (Jan) Schwartz, Gail Schwartz-Rice, Jane (David) Hund, Greg Schwartz and Jackie (Henry) Wiehe; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mollie and Tom Keeley and children, Claire, Alice, Sam and Elizabeth, Jennifer and Chris Schermbeck and children, Avery and Ben, Evan and Chelsie Klasinski and daughter, Kamdyn, Jill and Blaine Monroe, Amanda Rice and Anthony Cacciatore and son, Alex James, Jacob Rice, Laura and Brandon Hurd and children, Loralei and Caleb, Adam Hund, Maggie Schwartz, Matt Schwartz, Abigail and Dayton Flack and Grace Wiehe.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church all her life.
Helen treasured her family and friends and loved to spend time with them. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Helen also enjoyed her yard and loved living in the country.
Visitation beginning with the rosary will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at St. Joseph Church in Leavenworth. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, at the church, with Rev. David McEvoy, O.Carm. as celebrant. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart of Kickapoo Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart of Kickapoo. Arrangements in care of R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.
