Wanda Lee Johnson, 85, of Lansing went to reunite with her husband Jack of 55 years on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019.

She was born on June 7, 1934 at Pleasant Hill, Illinois to Robert R. and Clemma B. (Franklin) Conner. Wanda met Jack and they were married on March 23, 1951 in Pittsfield, Illinois. Jack nicknamed his wife “Blondie” and for Jack and many of their lifelong friends that name stuck with Wanda until Jack’s passing. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2006. Their love for each other gave them 4 children. Sandra Lee, Sharon, Janie, and Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter of 10 months Sandra Lee, her teenage grandson Dwight R. Hubbard, four  brothers, one sister, and her spouse, Jack.

She is survived by her children, Sharon (Jim) Hubbard, Lansing, Janie (Gene) Gates, Lansing, and Russell D. Johnson (Chris), Leavenworth, sister Hallie Crowder, Illinois, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter (Kensley) who also shares Wanda’s birthday.

Wanda was very proud of her five generations of children. Wanda was a very easy going lady who loved the company of everyone she met. She worked numerous years in retail as a sales clerk at J.C. Penney in Leavenworth. She was a wonderful mother who was always there for her children. After retirement her and Jack enjoyed camping and taking road trips along with spending quality time with their grandchildren. For 55 years she always managed to make it back to her hometown for a family reunion which is still celebrated every August since 1964. She was able to attend this past reunion and has rarely missed one. Family is very important to her. She looked forward to the phone calls from her sister Hallie. Hallie would try to make sure they spoke to each other every day to help close the gap of miles that separated them. Wanda is truly going to be missed, but we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her husband and family and will be waiting with open arms.

Thank you from the family to Lansing Care and Rehab Center for all the care. A special thanks to the nurses who made our mother feel special and gave her the extra attention when she needed a little extra comfort. Thank you for being there for her when we could not. She loved you all.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019 at the funeral home at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., with Pastor Cape Rust, officiating at the funeral home. Burial will follow immediately at Fall Creek Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Belden Larkin Funeral Home.
