Charles L. Rogers, 85, Overland Park, Kansas passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 at Colonial Village.
Charles was born Dec. 4, 1933 on a farm in Oskaloosa, Kansas to Lloyd and Claire Rogers. His professional career began with his appointment as Chief Physical Therapist at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He then pursued a career in hospital administration earning a Master’s degree at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri and served his residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He served as assistant hospital administrator at Memorial Hospital of Laramie County, Cheyenne, Wyoming. Charles was appointed President of Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1967, serving for 34 years. He was a Health Intern Mentor for students from the University of Alabama and the University of Kansas Hospital Administration programs. His professional achievements included; fellowship in the American College of Health Care Executives. In 1998 he received the Regents Award as the Kansas Heath Care Executive of the Year. He also served a term as President of the Hospital Linen Services of the Greater Kansas City Area Hospital Cooperative.
Charles was an active member of Rotary International for 38 years and served as Director and President of the Leavenworth-Lansing Chamber of Commerce. He was a strong supporter of small businesses in Leavenworth County.
Charles is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Shirley Rogers, daughter, Kimberly Knoll, and son-in-law, John, Tecumseh, Kansas.
