Melba Rin Hommertzheim, 49, Leavenworth, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at the University of Kansas Hospital.

Melba Rin Hommertzheim, 49, Leavenworth, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at the University of Kansas Hospital. She was born April 14, 1970, in Bellville, Illinois, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Taeko (Mishima) Givens.
Melba graduated from Cowley County Community College and Kansas State University. Melba was employed by the City of Junction City and later as the Investigations Secretary at the Leavenworth Police Department, Leavenworth, Kansas, from 2009 until her death.  
Melba is survived by her two daughters, Audrey Elizabeth and Elin Rin Hommertzheim, who were her world, her mother, Taeko, Arkansas City, Kansas; her sisters, Gloria Givens and Carina Givens, Arkansas City, Kansas and sister and brother-in-law, Cecilia and Mark Chase, Clive, Iowa; six nephews and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Givens.  
Melba will be remembered for her beautiful smile and thoughtfulness for everyone around her. She enjoyed life, home, family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
