Elleen Rose Anne Bourdeau, age 69, passed away Friday Oct. 25, 2019, after a three-year battle with breast cancer.
Elleen Rose Anne Bourdeau, age 69, passed away Friday Oct. 25, 2019, after a three-year battle with breast cancer. Elleen was born on July 24, 1950, in Roscrea, County Tipperary, Ireland as Ann Healy to her mother, Johanna Healy (Caligari). Elleen was brought to the United States in 1953 and was adopted by John and Margueritte Reichert. Elleen attended and graduated Brunswick High School, Brunswick, Missouri class of 1968 and attended Saint Mary’s College, Leavenworth, Kansas majoring in math. She eventually met and married the love of her life, Louis Bourdeau, and worked side by side at the Bourdeau Retail Liquor in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Elleen had many interests including music, sewing, and growing flowers and vegetables in her garden, along with her little Chihuahua, Gabby. Elleen held a lifetime love of reading books and later in life very much enjoyed playing and winning games of bingo. Elleen’s most cherished memories were time spent with her family and friends and visiting and learning about her grandchildren’s many activities. Elleen was a lifelong member of the Catholic church and found great comfort in the Holy Rosary.
Elleen is survived by her two daughters, Julie Wyrick and Bridget (Aaron) Doty and her son, Kenneth (Kristine) Bourdeau. Elleen is survived by seven grandchildren, Randy Doty, Elle Mezzio, Kamryn Bourdeau, Kaitlynn Bourdeau, Sofia Mezzio, Wyatt Doty, and Wade Doty, as well as two great-grandchildren, Randy Doty, Jr. and Evelyn Doty. In addition, Elleen is survived by her mother, Johanna Caligari, and her five brothers, Christopher, Robert, Reginald, Arthur, and Paul Caligari.
Elleen was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Bourdeau (2003), her mother, Margueritte Reichert (1982), and her father, John Reichert (1971).
A special thank you is sent from the family of Elleen to the staff and residents of Hillside Village of De Soto for making Elleen feel welcome and loved. Appreciation for the extraordinary tenderness and compassion shown to Elleen by the Hillside staff and the Visiting Nurses from Lawrence, Kansas, toward Elleen during her final days can never be fully expressed enough.
Visitation will take place Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at 1 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 900 Ida Street, Lansing, Kansas with Mass Of Christian Burial immediately following at 2 p.m., being officiated by Father William McEvoy.
