Alvan Paul Floray, Jr., 92, Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. He was born July 24, 1927, in Lansing, Kansas to Alvan Paul and Rokie Wilson Floray. He spent the majority of his life living within a five mile radius of where he was born. He graduated from Lansing High School in 1945 and joined the Merchant Marines shortly after. He also served in the Korean War. He married Norma Jean Hundley on March 27, 1953 in Kansas City, Kansas. They had three children.


He retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1980. Following that he worked for the Leavenworth County Council on Aging for several years. Alvan enjoyed farming throughout most of his life. He was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church.


Alvan was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Patty Floray Greenhagen, and his wife, Norma. He is survived by his children, Constance Floray, Branson, Missouri; David Floray, Leavenworth; and Linda Floray Godsil (Michael), Lansing, as well as one grandson, Russell Buchanan, Mission, Kansas. He is also survived by one brother, Ronald Floray, Leavenworth.


A private graveside service will be held at Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing, Kansas.
