William L. "Bill" Mann, age 92, World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a resident of Naperville, Illinois, since 1970, formerly of Springfield, Illinois and Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born February 18, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio.


He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley E. Mann (nee Hein), whom he married June 5, 1948 and who preceded him in death on January 29, 2013. He was the loving father of Deborah (Steve) Vidic of South Lebanon, Ohio and Carol (Loren) Brandt of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Bob (Kim) Mann of Plainfield, Illinois, adored grandfather of Julie and Chris Vidic, Beth (Ryan) Ziemba; Matt (Margo), Katie and the late Kyle Brandt; Scott (Brianne) and Steven (fiancée, Alyson Benitez) Mann, devoted son of the late William and Grace Mann, dear brother of Bruce (Pia) Mann, Sally (Bill) Murray, Preston (Ethel) Mann, the late Robert Mann and the late Wendell (Darlene) Mann, brother-in-law of Marge (the late Frosty) DeFrees and the late Bernice (the late Terry) Terry. In addition Bill had six great-grandchildren.


Bill grew up in Leavenworth, Kansas, attended Leavenworth High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17, serving in the Pacific theater during World War II. He attended the University of Kansas and had a 35 year career with International Harvester. After retiring from IH, Bill joined the Dealer Systems Team at Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP), Schaumburg, Illinois.


Bill was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville and an active member of the 50 & Holding seniors group. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Cursillo.


Bill enjoyed socializing with several luncheon groups, as well as bridge and poker. He enjoyed history, music and golf. The family will always remember the summer camping experiences they shared.


Due to the current health crisis, public services are being planned for a future date.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Naperville with inurnment at the Mausoleum of the Holy Apostles, SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.
