Shirley JoAnn Cordell, 77, Valley Falls, Kansas, passed away quietly in her sleep, surrounded by her children, on Sept. 6, 2020. She was born March 9, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Shirley married Billye E. Cordell Sr. in Leavenworth, Kansas on July 11, 1964. He survives her after 56 years of marriage. She is also survived by three children, Billye (Beth) Cordell, David (Lynley) Cordell and Timothy (Stacy) Cordell; seven grandchildren; three siblings, Mary (John) Ryan, Helen (Paul) Mensch and Clyde Marks; sisters-in-law, Selina Wright, Sandra Eubanks; brother-in-law, Micheal (Vicky) Cordell and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Walker; sister-in-law, Darlene Marks and brothers-in-law, Merritt Walker, Douglas Cordell, William Eubanks and Robert Wright.
She was a kind and caring mother and wife who enjoyed spending time with her family and dogs. In her life she was active in Eastern Star and White Shrine and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Leavenworth, Kansas. Shirley worked for the Fort Leavenworth School district as a cook and a cook supervisor where she enjoyed spending time with the students. She retired after 20 years of service.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, Kansas, with a funeral service beginning immediately after at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association who provided compassion and kindness in her care and passing.
