Gail Schoen passed away in the early morning of Nov. 5, 2020, at NorthCare Hospice House at North Kansas City Hospital. He was born to Ernest and Helen (Lattin) Schoen on June 14, 1931, in Portis, Kansas, and spent many years in the area around Smith County, Kansas, before joining American National Insurance Company as an insurance agent, first in Topeka and then in Wichita, Kansas. In 1968 the company moved him to Leavenworth, Kansas, where he spent the remainder of his 40-year career. Known for his sense of humor, he greatly appreciated the friendships that developed from his life in Leavenworth, and especially the many people and dear friends who supported him in his final days.

Gail is survived by his only daughter, Rebecca Stewart (Justin), Leavenworth, Kansas, and only grandson, Justin Cantrell, Tampa, Florida. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Cheril Roberts. Her children and husband, as well as his extended family in the Smith Center area, were very dear to him. He particularly wished to recognize his fond relationship with Denton Schoen, the son of his cousin Jim Schoen, with whom he shared many wonderful times traveling, hunting and exploring back roads.

Gail preferred not to have a memorial service, and will be cremated in accordance with his wishes.
