Katherine "Marie" Cook, 95, of Leavenworth and Lansing, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Providence Medical Center. She was born Mar. 29, 1926, in Leavenworth, Kan., the daughter of Katherine (Harris) and Francis McEvoy.
Marie grew up in Kickapoo Township, Leavenworth, Kan. She attended Potter schools and Immaculate High School.
During WWII, Marie contributed to the war effort by working for the glove factory in Leavenworth. Later in life she worked at Patton Junior High and Leavenworth Senior HS cafeterias. She retired from the Leavenworth VAMC after working in the dietary services department.
Marie married Robert W. "Bob" Cook in 1946. They resided in Leavenworth for many years. Marie and Bob were charter members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Leavenworth.
She is survived by her two sons, Jerry Cook of Lansing, Kan., and Robert E. Cook of Portland, Ore.; a granddaughter Katherine E. (Cook) Harmon and her husband Logan Harmon of Mission, Kan.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marie was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, R.E.A.C., and the VFW Auxiliary. She loved to garden, play cards and visit with friends and family. Marie also enjoyed baking, making homemade pies and casino trips.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. "Bob" Cook, her son William J. Cook, and her sister Barbara Jean Wilmot.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Memorial donations are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
