Leavenworth - John Fitzgerald Thomas, 56, of Leavenworth, died Monday, July 26, 2021. He was born Feb. 13, 1965, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., to Johnny and Earlene (Clark) Thomas.

On Aug. 23, 2003, John married Stephanie Lewis in Leavenworth. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his mother; five children, Rick Thomas, Trevon Thomas, Charmaine Dickerson, Chenavia Dickerson and Leroy Dickerson, Jr.; three brothers, Eric (Emily) Thomas, Patrick (Allison) Thomas and Derrick Thomas; four sisters, Queen (Calvin) Payne, Constance Renee (Stephen) Thomas-Wilson, Nakeba (Tracey) Brown and Beverly (Kenny) Morris; two grandchildren, Scott Shuster III and Sterling McKee-Dickerson; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Lisa Ann Thomas.

John served in the United States Army for 9 years. He worked at the Kansas Dept. of Corrections for over 25 years where he was awarded the Uniform Employee of the Year in 2009 and 2018.

He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. John enjoyed working out at the gym and he secretly loved watching the Young and the Restless.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, where masks will be required. There will be a private service for immediate family followed by a public graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
