David Michael Atkins
Leavenworth - David Michael Atkins, 74, of Leavenworth, died Friday, July 30, 2021 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. David was born March 15, 1947 at Ft. Leavenworth, KS, the son of Clarence E. Sr. and Margaret Evelyn Black Atkins. He was a 1964 graduate of Leavenworth High School, he earned an Associates of Arts degree from Kansas City Kansas Community College and a B.S. degree in Economics from Missouri Western University, St. Joseph, MO. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam war, serving September 1966 to May 1969 and in the Naval Reserves until March 31, 1970. David worked as a grain broker for many years, first working for Bartlett Grains and Farmer's Export Companies before forming Atkins and Company Grain Brokers. He also worked for Gateway Computer Company. He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and St. Casimir's Men's Society. He was a member of Byron H. Mehl American Legion Post #23 and V.F.W. post #56, all in Leavenworth. He was a longtime member of the first Wednesday of the Month Literary Investment Society of Leavenworth, Oskaloosa, Parkville, Lake Tapawingo and Cotter, AR.
He married Anne "Elaine" Noll on July 26, 1969 at Leavenworth, She survives at home, he is also survived by four daughters, Alicia (Barry) Clark, Overland Park, Sarah (Chris) Cozzi, Olathe, Angie (Barry) Wylie, Scotch Plains, N.J., Elizabeth (Korie) Fisher, Fairchild, AFB, Spokane, WA, two brothers, Clarence Atkins, Jr., Leavenworth, Bruce Atkins, Blue Springs, MO, 10 grandchildren, Nolan Fisher, Hunter Cozzi, David Cozzi, Amelia Wylie, Eliana Fisher, Lucy Clark, Sonoma Wylie, Jolene Clark, Delton Wylie and Uriah Fisher. David loved his family and his children and grandchildren were the light of his life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, September 27, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Leavenworth. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2021 with Rosary at 3:30 PM at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Leavenworth. Cremation will follow the Mass and Inurnment with U.S. Navy Honors will be 1:30 PM, Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Leavenworth V.A. National Cemetery.
