Mikel L. Kenyon

Mikel L. Kenyon, 76, lifelong resident of Leavenworth, lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center.

Mikel was born on September 18, 1945, to Fred T. and Silva (Stevens) Kenyon Sr. in Yale, OK. Mikel attended Leavenworth High School. Mikel joined the US Navy on June 17, 1964, after his service in the Army National Guard. He had a tour in Vietnam, stationed at DaNang and earned the Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 5, 1966. Mikel was a life member of the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 75, VFW Post #56, and AM Vets and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #55.

After his career in the Navy, he managed several restaurants in his early years and then became self-employed as an independent painter. Mikel enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques and old signs. People in town would drive by his residence and would honk and wave at Mikel sitting on his porch.

Mikel is survived by his mother, Silva Kenyon. Sisters, Becky (Bob Williford) Scanlon and Cindy (Vernon) Ferguson and brothers, Freddy Kenyon Jr and Douglas Kenyon all of Leavenworth. 20 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and brother Jerry Kenyon.

Visitation will be Monday, November 1, 2021, at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Memorial service will be Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at 9:30 am at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Sam (Gary) Sanford, officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 11:00 am.
