Matthew “Matt” Alexander Vlademar Jr., 96, Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born in Leavenworth, Kansas, to Matthew Alexander Vlademar Sr. and Ruth A. (Collins) Vlademar Zobel. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in both World War II and Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals for his World War II service. He was a retired State Farm insurance agent.
Matt was a longtime active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Leavenworth, Kansas, and a member and past master of Hancock Masonic Lodge 311 serving in many capacities and offices. He was very involved serving on many committees and organizations including being a member of both the Byron H. Mehl American Legion Post 23 in Leavenworth and the D.A.V. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peg,” and his daughter, Ann.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel with burial with honors at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, in the U.S. national cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the service on Saturday.
He is survived by his daughters, Cathy L. Larson, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Susan E. Bates and her husband Ronald, Hackett, Arkansas; a son, Stan Vlademar, and his wife Lee, Fort Smith, Arkansas; a sister, Ruth Hodge, Leavenworth, Kansas; five grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
