Barbara Jane (Harris) Mires, a longtime Leavenworth County resident, passed away Feb. 22, 2021, in Topeka. 

Barbara was born in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, on Jan. 16, 1944, the eldest daughter of Donald L. and Leoma “Dolly” (Dunavan) Harris. 

Barbara married Elmer Leroy Mires on April 5, 1964. She was a homemaker and mother of six children. Barbara was a member of the Springdale Homemaker’s Club, a room mother at Easton schools for over 20 years and later worked for Easton Bus Service. 

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Deanna Harris, and one son, Alex. 

Barbara is survived by her husband, Elmer Mires, Easton, and her sister, Linda Harris, Lansing, her five children: Sharla Vandruff (Brian), Topeka, Phillip Mires, Easton, and Susan Collins (Ron), Easton, Stacy Rycheck (Kevin), Garnett, and Shelly Mires. Barbara is also survived by her five grandchildren. 

A public visitation is planned at Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, from 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2021. Interment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
