To the editor:
For more than 32 years, I’ve had the privilege of being a small business owner and member of the Leavenworth community. In that time, I’ve been continually impressed with our city’s determination and dedication to creating the best possible place to work, and more importantly, raise a family.
As a parent, I know that education plays a critical role in those efforts. We all want our children to grow up to be well-educated, productive members of our community. To accomplish this, we must work to keep our facilities up to date and conducive to learning. We have an opportunity to do just that by supporting the USD 453 June 15 no tax increase bond issue.
This proposal provides the necessary space to relieve overcrowding at Warren Middle School, as well as three of our elementary schools, while also creating a dedicated early education center specifically geared toward ensuring that every student who enters our district is best prepared for educational success. Research has repeatedly shown the importance of early preparation and intervention, as well as the impact right-sized buildings and classrooms can have on learning, and this bond is a significant step in that direction.
No plan is ever perfect, but I believe in the work of the many district parents and stakeholders involved in bringing this forward, and I ask you to join me in voting yes on the bond issue.
