Kurt Allen and Titanium Blue played to a lively crowd last Saturday night at Grinders High Noon, 206 Choctaw St. The band consists of Kurt Allen on lead vocals, Dave Shelton on bass and Aaron Thomas on drums. All three are veteran musicians who have played around the Leavenworth/Kansas City area and have toured across the country with other musical acts. Thomas is a founding member of another successful local group, The Old No. 5s.

They opened their set with a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe” then went into their rendition of the Beatles’ “Come Together” to grab the room’s attention. Their third song was an original tune called “Got a Line on You.”

Through the night, they covered bands such as the Black Crowes, Cream, Ziggy Marley along with some lesser known groups like Alvin Lee’s Ten Years After, while peppering in their original songs. They played songs off of their album “Titanium Blue” along with other originals that will be on an upcoming album that they are working on. One of my favorites was “Graveyard Blues” featuring Allen’s slide guitar playing.

If you’re a fan of live blues and rock, definitely give Allen and Titanium Blue a try. They will be back in our area Sept. 5 at Kobi’s Bar in Bonner Springs. To find out more about their music, go to kurtallenmusic.com
