To the editor:

In 2014, Tony Barton became the state representative for the 41st District in the state of Kansas. He ran for reelection in 2016. However, Jeff Pittman won that election. Bits and pieces of the truth regarding our current representative continue to come to the surface, all of which are disturbing.

One recent piece of information has come out from that campaign cycle leading up to the 2016 election. A man who is connected to Tony professionally stated that Holly Pittman told him Tony is a traitor to his people, a sellout. The Urban Dictionary defines a sellout as “a human being who abandons their convictions to impress people and/or become more popular.” defines it as “a person who betrays a cause, organization or the like; traitor.”

It is interesting that the words that mean the opposite are accurate descriptions of Tony: “allegiance, devotion, faithfulness, loyalty, staunchness, steadfastness, dependability, reliability, trustworthiness; defense, protection, safeguard, shield.” (

Let me clarify something once again. In the 20 years I have known Tony Barton, he has always been true to who he is, what he believes and what he has promised. All my life I have known people who say one thing but in one area or another will not carry out who they say they are. Not Tony. I honestly have never met anyone like him. What you see is truly what you get, whether you see him at the gas pump or behind a podium. So find me proof that he is a sellout to his people. I’ll find 10 ways where he has been loyal. Look at his voting record when he was in office. You will find proof. Research his attendance record when the House was in session and you will find out he was there, a faithful representative of the people who had elected him. He took that role seriously. He will again.

As for our current elected official, you will find poor attendance, not voting on an issue when he was there, but merely responding that he was present. So what does he stand for? I honestly don’t think he knows. His record both in front of people and behind closed doors paints a very accurate picture of someone who is a sellout to the very people who elected him two years ago. He has not done a good job.

He has lied about his opponent, Tony Barton. I personally know someone who was associated with Mr. and Mrs. Pittman. This person was told by them that Tony had let all the air out of all their tires. As I have repeatedly stated and will continue to state, Tony is not capable of something like that. Obviously Mr. Pittman is. He will lie to our faces as our representative. He will lie to individuals about Tony just to get ahead and be elected.

So here are two stories of people who can be trusted that the Pittmans lied about Tony. Since Jeff Pittman, our representative, plus his campaign manager and wife would lie to two people about Tony Barton, why would they stop there? This leads me to believe that the source of all of these untruths that have been spread throughout our area originate from one household. Why would someone do that? If you will refer back to the beginning of this article, you will see the definition of a sellout. Mr. Pittman’s name might as well be added to that description. By the way, in the field of mental health, the person who originates accusations when it is really true about the person stating the falsehood, it is known as projection. Thank you for letting us know who you truly are, Mr. Pittman.
