To the editor:
The Leavenworth County Historical Society at the Carroll Mansion Museum has announced a $1,000 donation from Evergy. Their thoughtfulness and generosity are greatly appreciated.
Like families and businesses across the country and the world, the current COVID-19 pandemic is also having a financial impact on Carroll Mansion operations. With the museum currently closed to the public, it has missed out on several large group tours, arranged through the efforts of the Leavenworth Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Group tours and walk-in visitors generate much needed revenue, not only for the museum but the Leavenworth community as well. Neither federal nor state funding is received for operating expenses which continue, as with any household or business. Repairs to the museum still exist.
The Carroll Mansion must rely on the generosity of donors, so if anyone has the ability to make a contribution in any amount to the museum at this time, it would make a significant difference.
Members are reminded to renew their memberships. Non-members are asked to consider becoming a new or supporting member.
Contributions can be made through the museum website, www.leavenworthhistory.org, via PayPal, or a check can be mailed directly to the Carroll Mansion Museum, 1128 Fifth Ave., Leavenworth, KS, 66048.
Hopefully the current crisis will come to an end soon and you will visit the museum when we are once again open. The historical society and Carroll Mansion have been an integral part of the community for 65 years and is grateful for the continued support.
