University of Saint Mary’s Tony Weber placed second in the college division and fourth overall in last weekend’s Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Spires had several competitors record impressive runs.

The men’s distance medley team of Eric Vasquez, Zarrion Hill, Luke Skinner and Philip Lagemann ran a 10:06.95 to place ninth and set a new USM record in the event.

The 4x800 relay of Lagemann, Jermie Johnson, Mike Tyll and Tegan Micheal ran a 7:46, the second fastest time in USM history, to finish 10th overall.

The 4x100 team of Hill, Blu Robinson, Darion Allen and Anterreon McClain ran a 42.65 to place 22nd.

The women’s 4x100 team of Megan McMillan, Princess Sales, Linda Delgado and Tisian Nealy ran a 51.36 to place 27th.

“I am really proud of how our athletes performed this weekend at the Drake Relays,” coach Alstin Benton said in an email. “On Saturday there were more than 10,000 people in attendance which can be nerve-racking for just about anyone. A couple of years ago, we could not even qualify for a meet of this caliber. Now we are at a point where we are not only getting into these meets but going and competing at a high level against NCAA Division I and Division II programs. Our athletes have created a high standard at USM and are showing others that the division of the program is less important than the class of the program.”
