Leavenworth High School junior Guy Ramos has been a key performer for the Pioneers’ track team all spring.

Last weekend at the regional track meet, Ramos won the 200 and 400 and was a member of a second-place relay.

“He’s been our No. 1 guy all season,” said coach Willis Willmeth.

Ramos and 15 teammates will travel to Wichita State University this weekend for the state track meet.

The action begins Friday and concludes Saturday.

The Leavenworth girls’ track team will have 14 athletes competing in the state meet.

Ramos has qualified and will compete in four events, including the 200, 400, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.

“He has an excellent opportunity to come home with four medals,” Willmeth said. “I think he is ready to peak. He’s worked hard to get where he is. Hopefully, just rewards are coming.”

Willmeth has high hopes for the team as well. In addition to Ramos, Willmeth said the team has three relays that could post points as well as Nick Adams in the 110 hurdles and Sean Markert in the pole vault.

“They are working hard every day busting their tails,” he said.
