The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference hosted football media days at the Crestview Country Club in Wichita on Friday. The head coaches for the teams all spoke with common themes of making the players better men, and the coaches being thankful for their wives and family.

University of Saint Mary coach Jay Osborne continued the trend with his brief time at the podium.

Osborne mentioned how the outlook has changed for the team after the sudden death of Christian Yanos in March. Osborne talked about enjoying every day.

The Spires return 10 starters from 2017’s 4-7 season with six on offense and four on defense and 29 returning lettermen.

The returners will play a big part to help the Spires bounce back from a down year, but Osborne also expects the new players to also have an impact.

“For us, it's a lot about our returners,” Osborne said. “But we have some good kids coming in.”

The Spires will kick off the season on Sept. 1 at home against Tabor.

After the 11 coaches spoke, the media and coaches’ ballots were submitted for a preseason poll. The Spires were picked eighth in the coaches’ poll with one first-place vote and ninth in the media poll. Tabor was picked to win by the coaches and Sterling by the media.

Other highlights from the media days include newest football member Avila making their first appearance at media days. The Eagles were picked to finish 10th in both polls.
