Mixed martial arts fans in Leavenworth will get another chance to see the sport in town this Friday. The Universal Combat League will host the “Battle of the Centuries 2” at the Riverfront Community Center. There will be 14 fights, including a four-person tournament for fans to watch and enjoy.

This will be the fourth MMA fight in Leavenworth put on by the UCL.

The idea for fights in Leavenworth traces back to last year when John Kiser wanted to host shows in his hometown. The Leavenworth native hopes to see the sport continue to grow and eventually wants to see the town get a gym for MMA, boxing and self-defense lessons for the community.

The first two events were sellouts at the Riverfront Community Center. The third event was held outdoors at Haymarket Square and was the first “Battle of the Centuries” in June. Rainy weather pushed back the show’s start time for more than an hour. Not long after, Mother Nature struck again and the event was cut short so the sequel will also serve as the make-up date as well.

Kiser, promoter of the event, is excited to bring the fights back to the community.

“We’re excited for this event,” Kiser said. “We are excited to bring MMA back to town after the rainout on June 30.”

Kiser said anyone with a ticket stub from the June event can get a half-price ticket if they purchase at the door.

Tickets are $24 and can be purchased at the door or on the UCL’s website, www.uclcombat.com
