The Leavenworth Pioneers and Lansing Lions renewed their rivalry Tuesday night, this time on the soccer pitch.
In a tale of two halves, Leavenworth pulled away 7-0 to get the win at Lansing.
After stormy weather delayed the start of the junior varsity game, the storm cleared up for just the right amount of time to get both of the games in without any major issues.
The varisty game started off with both teams playing strong defense. The Leavenworth Pioneers dominated the possession, but the game remained scoreless for much of the first half.
Nate Moore of the Pioneers scored first with 7:26 to go in the first half, which was the score at halftime.
Early in the second half, the Pioneers’ offense saw success against the Lions defensive formation and scored four goals in less than five minutes.
Two more goals were added by the Pioneers before both teams remained scoreless for the final 20 minutes.
The win for the Pioneers was their second straight in two days to start their season under new coach Brenden Olesen.
The loss for the Lions dropped them to 0-1 in their first game under coach Ashley Wilcox.
