The 2018-19 swimming season kicks off this week for the Lansing Lions boys.
Head coach Josh Floetke said the team will return 13 swimmers with seven seniors returning.
Two other seniors join the program to bring this year’s total to nine.
The team will also feature eight swimmers from the Basehor-Linwood Bobcats.
Floetke said the team has practiced well to start the year.
“Practice has been going well,” Floetke said. “It seems that many of our kids have been putting in work in the offseason.”
A typical practice for the team takes place after school and Saturday mornings.
The team spends at least two hours working in the pool on strokes, kicks, pulls and endurance training.
The top swimmers according to Floetke will be Zach Crumpacker, Max Walck, Brock Martin, Robert Schafer and Jake Hamilton.
This season will be filled with the team joining the new United Kansas Conference. Floetke said it will not bring much change. It will just mainly be new faces at the league meet.
“It will be different with Leavenworth in the league,” he said.
The first league meet is something that he is looking forward to. Floetke also said the relay meet is always a fun one to kick off the season.
The Lions will kick their season off this Wednesday when they travel to Topeka West for a tournament.
The meet begins at 4 p.m.
