The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association and Kansas Basketball Coaches Association released their updated rankings earlier this week.

In wrestling, all four area schools have at least one wrestler ranked. 

The Leavenworth Pioneers have two in this week’s rankings. Hartwell Taylor currently sits at No. 2 in the 126-pound rankings behind Lou Fincher of Lawrence Free State. Anthony Garcia comes in at No. 6 in the 285-pound rankings. Derby High School is the No. 1 ranked team followed by Manhattan, Garden City Washburn Rural and Mill Valley to round out the top five.

In 5A, Lansing has four individuals ranked and are in this week’s team rankings.

Camden Maestas, Joseph Irwin and Dylan Ward all sit at fourth in 106, 145 and 182 pounds. The Lions also have Malachi Tinnel at No. 6 at 152 pounds this week. 

Basehor-Linwood has one ranked wrestler this week. Josh Wilcutt is No. 6 in the 196-pound class.

The Lions also are No. 8 in this week’s team rankings sandwiched in between Great Bend and Newton. Goddard, Arkansas City, Maize, Blue Valley Southwest and Bonner Springs make up the top five. St. Thomas Aquinas is sixth and Salina Central is 10th.

Pleasant Ridge has Trevor Ragland at No. 3 at 106 pounds in the 3-2-1A rankings. Colby, Eureka, Norton, Hoxie and Plainville are the top-ranked schools.

In basketball, the Pleasant Ridge girls’ and the Basehor-Linwood boys’ teams are in this week’s rankings. 

The Rams are currently No. 9 in the 3A rankings. Nemaha Central, Cheney, Wellsville, Hesston, Gaven, Clay Center, Norton and Jefferson West are ranked above Pleasant Ridge and Halstead is 10.

Basehor-Linwood boys are the No.4-ranked team in 5A. Ahead of the Bobcats are Maize, Andover Central and Wichita Heights. Behind the Bobcats are Bonner Springs, Arkansas City, Pittsburg, Maize South, Salina Central and McPherson.
