Wednesday night continued sub-state play for the area schools. After the Pleasant Ridge teams played on Monday and Tuesday, it was time for the 5A and 6A teams to play in the sub-state semifinals.

No. 11 Leavenworth boys traveled to No. 6 Olathe East.

The Hawks jumped out to a 16-10 lead after the first quarter. The lead would increase to 30-21 at halftime.

Olathe East had a strong third quarter to go up 59-33 before cruising to a 75-40 victory.

D’Monte Gaw led the Pioneers with 14 points. Kenyon Myers added eight.

Leavenworth finishes the season 9-12. Olathe East improved to 13-8 and will face No. 3   Shawnee Mission South. The Raiders defeated No. 14 Shawnee Mission Northwest 63-56 Wednesday night.


The No. 11 Basehor-Linwood girls’ team traveled to Sumner Academy to face the No. 6 Sabres.

Sumner jumped out first 16-11 after the first quarter and increased the lead to 33-20 going into the locker room at halftime.

The Bobcats would cut the lead to 38-27 entering the fourth quarter and kept chipping away in a comeback attempt. With 6:08 left, the Bobcats cut the lead to 41-34. Basehor-Linwood was able to shave off another point at 2:57 and trailed 49-43 but it was not enough and the Sabres pulled away with a 54-48 win.

Isabel Sibert led the Bobcats with 13 points. Riley Tinder had seven rebounds and six assists.

The Bobcats finished the season 8-13. Sumner Academy advances to Friday’s sub-state final against No. 3 Blue Valley Southwest. The Timberwolves defeated No. 14 St. James Academy 54-25 on Wednesday.
