The Leavenworth soccer team hosted Basehor-Linwood Thursday night in a United Kansas Conference clash with the Pioneers taking the game 4-2.

The Bobcats jumped out first 1-0 with 31:29 remaining in the first half after a goal by Adell Gore. Leavenworth would answer less than a minute later with an Alexis Cole goal. Cole would score again 16 minutes later on an assist from Kaylee Shaw.

Pioneers head coach Greg Ruff said in a recap on that Cole is up to 12 goals in nine games now.

He also said Cole and Shaw complement each other.

“They work very well together,” Ruff said in the recap. “Fun to watch them play the game with their intensity and commitment to the team and game.”

The Pioneers added another goal less than a minute later to go up 3-1.

The Bobcats would cut the lead to 3-2 with 8:34 remaining in the first half after Mos Lor would score for Basehor-Linwood.

In the second half, Cole would assist Shaw for a goal before the Pioneers defense kept the Bobcats from scoring to take the win.

Basehor-Linwood head coach Jennifer Lowery said the Bobcats struggled to pull it all together Tuesday night.

“We struggled to connect passes against Leavenworth,” Lowery said. “We adjusted at halftime and played much better defensively in the second half. We had some great individual performances but couldn’t put it all together (Tuesday) night.”

Ruff said freshman Mia Kensinger led the defense at center back on the night and freshman Brooke Collins had a great night at goalkeeper.

The two teams will travel to other UKC opponents Thursday with Leavenworth traveling to Shawnee Heights and Basehor-Linwood heading to Lansing.

The Lions and Bobcats will play at 5:30 p.m. The Pioneers and Thunderbirds will kick off at 6 p.m.

The Lansing Lions hosted the Turner Golden Bears Tuesday night in a UKC matchup.

Lansing would defeat Turner 4-1 to pick up their first win of the season and first win under head coach Ashley Wilcox.

The Lions will host Basehor-Linwood at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
