Lexy Augustine scored two goals and helped the Basehor-Linwood Bobcats soccer team beat the Leavenworth Pioners 2-0 Thursday night at Basehor-Linwood High School.

Augustine got the Bobcats on the board first with 26:22 remaining in the first half.

Both defenses would remain strong for much of the remainder of the game with neither team scoring until Augustine added her second goal of the night with 5:51 remaining.

Basehor-Linwood would hold on and get the victory.

The victory by the Bobcats split the season series with the two conference opponents.

The Pioneers previously defeated the Bobcats 4-2 on April 16.

Bobcats head coach JayJay Lowery said she was proud of how the team came out strong in Thursday’s game.

“I was really proud of how our girls came out,” Lowery said.

“We faced Leavenworth earlier in the season with a 4-2 loss and just couldn’t put it together. We came out strong from the beginning (tonight), which we’ve struggled to do this season. We put it all together, which is really great.”

She said keeping the intensity from Thursday’s game will be key as the regular season begins to wrap up.

Pioneers head coach Greg Ruff felt like the team played well but did not capitalize on their chances like the Bobcats did.

“Bottom line is (Basehor) made their two chances,” Ruff said. “And we missed our three or four. I felt like we dominated in the second half. But they capitalized on their chances and we didn’t”

With regionals coming up, Ruff said the team is getting better moving the ball and just has a few things to clean up as the season comes to a close and in the future as a whole He said this has been one of the best seasons the girls’ team has ever had and are starting to get more respect.

Leavenworth will play Shawnee Heights on Monday. Basehor-Linwood travels to Spring Hill on Tuesday.
