The regional seeding and matchups were determined over the weekend in girls’ soccer.
Action began Monday and will continue until the regional championships Thursday.
In 5A, the Lansing Lions are the No. 16 seed in the northeast section. The Lions finished the regular season 1-14 and hosted No. 17 Washington (1-15) on Monday for the play-in game. The Lions won the game and will travel to No. 1 De Soto (14-1-1) Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Basehor-Linwood Bobcats snagged the No. 9 seed with their 6-10 record on the year. They will take on No. 8 Seaman (7-9) Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The winner of both games Tuesday will face each other Thursday at the highest remaining seed’s home field.
In 6A, the 9-7 Leavenworth Pioneers received the No. 11 seed in the northeast section. They traveled to Shawnee Mission South (12-4) Monday. The Pioneers fell 4-0 to end their season at 9-8. Shawnee Mission South will play again on Thursday and face the winner of Tuesday’s matchup between No. 3 Olathe West (13-3) and No. 14 Blue Valley Northwest (6-9-1). The game will be played at the highest remaining seed.
The regional winners will advance to the quarterfinals on May 21. The two highest remaining seeds from each section will host the two quarterfinal games. The quarterfinal winners will advance to the state tournament. The state tournament is May 24-25. The 5A tournament will be at Emporia and the 6A tourney will be held at Wichita South.
