Basehor-Linwood girl’s basketball’s (16-7) season came to an end Thursday in the Kansas Class 5A quarterfinals with a 59-44 loss to top-seeded McPherson (21-1) at White Auditorium in Emporia.

Adell Gore got the Lady Bobcats on the board with a running floater to tie the game at 2-2. The Bullpups built a 9-4 lead off of turnovers generated by their press. Basehor-Linwood’s leading scorer Lucy Lally picked up her second foul early in the quarter, sending her to the bench for the remainder of the quarter. Isabel Sibert got the Lady Bobcats within five at 14-9 with three free throws before the first quarter ended.

McPherson opened the second quarter outscoring Basehor 6-2 to lead 20-11. Lally picked up her third foul of the game less than three minutes into the quarter, keeping her out of the game. Alexys Augustine picked up third foul moments later and Gore got her second, forcing Basehor to go deeper down the bench.

The Bullpups led by as many as 15 in the second quarter but the Lady Bobcats started to trim the lead. Sami Fisher knocked down a 3-pointer in the final minute of the half to get Basehor-Linwood within ten at 31-21 going into halftime.

The Bullpups went on 5-0 run at the beginning of the half to lead 36-22. The Lady Bobcats got back-to-back scores to trail by 10 again but McPherson responded with a 3-pointer to lead 39-26. Lally knocked down a 3-pointer in response to put Basehor back within ten. Gore picked up her fourth foul soon after and went back to the bench. After Gore sat, the Bullpups outscored the Lady Bobcats 7-2 to lead 47-31 going into the fourth quarter. Fisher, Gore and Lally all made shots in the opening minutes of the final quarter to trim the Bullpups lead to single digits at 49-40.

Basehor struggled the score the rest of the way as Gore would foul out and the Bullpups closed out the quarterfinal win to end the Lady Bobcats’ season.

Gore led the Lady Bobcats with 11 points before she fouled out.
