Lansing football pushed its winning streak to three games with strong performances on both sides of the ball Friday in a 41-7 victory over Shawnee Heights at home.
The Lions’ offense quickly established the ability to move the ball through the air or on the ground, scoring on their first three possessions of the game.
Shawn Patton scored his first touchdown of the season on a 6-yard run, followed by a 1-yard run from Jack Knutson and a 37-yard touchdown pass from Caden Crawford to Malik Benson to put Lansing up 21-0.
The Lions’ defense kept the offense on the field, holding the Thunderbirds to three-and-outs and forcing turnovers.
Benson caught his second touchdown of the game on a 29-yard pass from Crawford to put the Lions up 27-0.
Crawford tossed his third touchdown of the game when he found Hunner Nelson from 10-yards out to push the Lansing lead to 34-0.
Knutson picked up his second score of the night when he broke through a hole and found the endzone from 31 yards out.
Shawnee Heights picked up a late score on a 60-yard touchdown pass to avoid a shutout.
The Lions move to 3-0 and will face De Soto (2-1) Friday at home. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be watched on 810varsity.com

Leavenworth fell to 0-2 with a 39-14 loss to Piper Friday at home.
The Pioneers opened the scoring and led 7-0 but the Pirates scored 25 unanswered points and never looked back.

Basehor-Linwood dropped its United Kansas Conference matchup with De Soto Friday 49-28 to fall to 1-2 on the season.
The Wildcats opened the scoring with back-to-back rushing touchdowns to lead 14-0 after the first quarter. Basehor stormed back to tie the game at 14 with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Isaac Stanton to Chants Nelson and a nine-yard run from Zack Sisemore.
De Soto continued to lean on the rushing attack, adding another touchdown on the ground and another through the air to lead 28-14 at halftime.
The Wildcats remained in control of the game in the second half adding three more unanswered touchdowns to lead 49-14. The Bobcats added two late touchdowns on runs from Sisemore and Jekai Harris.
Basehor-Linwood is scheduled to host St. James Academy Friday. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kiester Field.
