A strong start wasn’t enough Friday for Basehor-Linwood high school football as the Bobcats were defeated by St. James Academy 56-35 in the sectional championship at Kiester Field.


The Bobcats opened the scoring when junior running back Zack Sisemore scored from one yard out to lead 7-0 after the first quarter.


The Thunder responded in the second quarter with three unanswered touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead into the half.


The Bobcats cut the deficit to one possession at the beginning of the second half when Sisemore scored his second rushing touchdown. The Thunder went on another scoring run, posting three more unanswered touchdowns to lead 42-14. Sisemore got his third touchdown of the game when he scored from three yards out as time expired in the third quarter to cut the Thunder lead to 42-21. Senior quarterback Isaac Stanton threw his first two touchdown passes of the game in the fourth quarter to junior Jordan Brown and Chants Nelson.


Stanton finished 29-50 for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Sisemore carried the ball 36 times for 203 yards and three touchdowns. Brown caught 14 passes for 110 yards and one touchdown. Denton Gentry led the Bobcats with nine total tackles.
