Lovingworth activities scheduled for upcoming week

Several events are scheduled for the upcoming week as part of the Lovingworth program. But registration for some of them already has ended.

Lovingworth is a series of activities that are scheduled in September in the city of Leavenworth. Lovingworth was organized as an alternative to the city-sponsored Camp Leavenworth festival, which was canceled this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A sidewalk chalk art contest originally was scheduled for Sept. 10 but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The event is now scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday at Landing Park, 301 S. Esplanade St. However, registration for the event has ended.

Photos of the participants’ artwork will be posted on Facebook. Online voting will take place from 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday. The winner will receive a prize package with Lovingworth and Camp Leavenworth merchandise.

A S'mores Night activity is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Landing Park. Complimentary s’mores will be offered during the event.

The event is free, but registration is required. The registration deadline is Tuesday.

Visit lovingworth.com to register.

People who have registered for craft T-shirts and T-shirt coloring kits for their children can pick them up from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the park. Registration for these supplies has ended.

On Friday, local residents are encouraged to camp in their backyards and share their experiences on social media using #Lovingworth.

Outdoor screenings of “Kung Fu Panda” and “Jurassic Park” are planned for Sept. 19 at 10th Avenue Park as part of Drive-in Movie Night. But all of the available slots for these free screenings have been filled.

There are still ongoing Lovingworth activities that will continue through the end of September.

One is the passport program. Passport booklets were mailed to Leavenworth residents before the start of the Lovingworth campaign. The passports list more than 30 businesses that are participating in the passport program. Residents who visit at least 15 of the businesses by Sept. 30 can turn in their passports for free Lovingworth merchandise.

Artwork and signs also have been set up along the pathway in Landing Park to guide people through a series of activities they can do on their own.
