20 more COVID-19 cases reported in county

Twenty new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday by the Leavenworth County Health Department.

This was the Health Department’s first update of COVID-19 cases in the county since Monday afternoon.

The Health Department also reported a COVID-19 case that previously was counted in Leavenworth County has been transferred to another county. This change impacts the overall total number of cases in the county.

As of Wednesday afternoon, there have been 1,444 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Leavenworth County, according to the Health Department.

That number includes 852 cases involving inmates at the Lansing Correctional Facility and 67 cases involving inmates and personnel at the Grossman Center halfway house in Leavenworth.

Of the remaining 525 community cases, 125 are considered active. And two cases involving LCF inmates are considered active.

As of Wednesday afternoon, three people from Leavenworth County were in the hospital because of COVID-19. A total of 47 county residents have been hospitalized because of the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Eight Leavenworth County residents, including four LCF inmates, have died from complications related to COVID-19.
