17 new COVID-19 cases reported in county

The Leavenworth County Health Department has reported 17 new cases of COVID-19 in the county.

The new cases were reported in an update that was released Friday afternoon. This was the Health Department’s first update since Wednesday.

The Health Department also reported Friday that two COVID-19 cases involving inmates at the Lansing Correctional Facility were transferred to another county and are no longer counted among Leavenworth County’s cases.

The Health Department reported that a total of 1,459 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Leavenworth County. That number includes 850 cases involving LCF inmates and 67 cases involving inmates and personnel at the Grossman Center halfway house in Leavenworth.

Of the remaining 542 community cases, 114 are considered active.

As of Friday afternoon, three people from Leavenworth County were in the hospital because of COVID-19. A total of 47 county residents have been hospitalized because of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Eight Leavenworth County residents, including four LCF inmates, have died from complications related to COVID-19.

In addition to the 1,459 positive cases, 9,891 people in the county who have been tested for the virus have received negative results. This includes 181 negative results that have been reported since Wednesday.
