HUTCHINSON –  A Hutchinson Blue Dragon offensive lineman becomes the latest football player and NJCAA national champion in the Blue Dragon football program to commit to a Division Iprogram.

Blue Dragons left tackle Kingsley Ugwu announced on Twitter Friday that he has committed to play football for the Kansas State Wildcats.

The 6-foot-5-inch lineman chose the Wildcats and head coach Chris Clieman over Big 12 conference opponents Texas Tech and Baylor. Ugwu also had offers from Colorado, Houston, Utah State, and UNLV, among many others.

Ugwu was named an NJCAA first-team All-American and also received first-team honors in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. Ugwu led a powerful offensive front on the line of scrimmage to one of the top rushing offenses in the country and put their running game on display in the 2021 NJCAA national championship against the Snow College Badgers, rushing for 233 yards with all four touchdowns coming from the ground game.

Ugwu received his Kansas State offer on June 16 and made the offer announcement via his personal Twitter account.

Blue Dragons receivers coach Kody Cook is a K-State alum who played receiver for the Wildcats under retired head coach Bill Snyder.
