Football roundup: Basehor-Linwood downs Leavenworth in high-scoring affair
Basehor-Linwood football (1-1) picked up its first win of the season Friday with a 61-42 win over Leavenworth (0-1) at Kiester Field.
The first half saw both teams combine for 63 points and nine touchdowns.
The Bobcats opened the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Isaac Stanton to Jordan Brown. Leavenworth quickly responded with a score after Keenan Brown took a handoff eight yards into the endzone but a failed two-point attempt left the Pioneers trailing 7-6.
Stanton found Brown again on the ensuing possession for a touchdown, then tossed another to Gatlin Brown with 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The Pioneers opened the second-quarter scoring with a 42-yard field goal by Trey Bettencourt to trail 20-9, followed by a 23-yard touchdown run by quarterback Eddie McLaughlin, but the PAT attempt was blocked.
Stanton and Jordan Brown connected for a third touchdown followed by a 1-yard run by Zack Sisemore to push the Bobcat lead to 34-15.
Leavenworth cut into the lead in the final two minutes of the half with a 28-yard touchdown pass from McLaughlin to Keenan Brown but the Bobcats responded with a score of their own after Stanton found Sisemore with 10 seconds remaining to lead 41-22.
Keenan Brown opened the second half scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run for his third total touchdown of the game. Sisemore picked up his third score of the game with an eight-yard run to put the Bobcats up 48-29.
McLaughlin found Alexander Finn for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter but the Bobcats held onto their lead to win.
Stanton finished with 372 passing yards, six touchdowns and an interception. McLaughlin threw for 227 yards and three touchdown passes.
Jordan Brown led all receivers with 14 receptions, 252 yards and four touchdowns. Finn caught three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
Keenan Brown rushed for 72 yards on 19 carries with two touchdowns and caught 7 passes for 72 yards and a score.
The Bobcats are scheduled to play their first road game of the season Friday when they face De Soto. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Leavenworth is scheduled to play its first home game of the season Friday when they host Piper. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
In other action
Lansing improved to 2-0 Friday with a 12-7 win over Piper. The Lions trailed 7-0 in the third quarter before Jack Knutson found the endzone from five yards out. A failed point after attempt left the Lions down 7-6 in the fourth but quarterback Caden Crawford put them on top with a 1-yard sneak for the go-ahead score.
The Lions are scheduled to host Shawnee Heights Friday. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
