John Dale Wightman

John Dale Wightman, was born on October 28, 1943 at home in St. Claire County, Missouri to John Merland and Bessie (Tucker) Wightman.

The family moved to Kansas City, Kansas there to farm by Lansing, Kansas. John graduated from Lansing Rural High School in May of 1963. He served in the United States Army for two years. On October 21, 1967 he married the love of his life Arlene Barber at Santa Fe, New Mexico.

John worked at the Kansas Correctional Facility in Lansing for ten years, then he went on to the Veterans Hospital at Leavenworth, Kansas (Wadsworth) for 40 years. He was loyal, loving and generous to a fault.

His hobbies included coon hunting with his five registered Walker hounds, operating his C B radio and coin collecting.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years Arlene of the home, brother in law Jack Cain, brother in law Bill (Gloria) Hemmingsen, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Francis De Sales Church, 900 Ida St, Lansing, Kansas followed by burial in the Mount Muncie Cemetery in the family plot, Lansing, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to Lansing High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society or Hope Animal Shelter.
