Jacob Dragieff, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 27, 2022, at home surrounded by family and friends. Jake was born September 10, 1934, to George and Draga Kristonish Dragieff. He grew up on a farm in Ottawa, Kan. where he attended a one room schoolhouse and rode a horse to school. He later attended Rantoul High School where he graduated.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and six sisters.
He joined the Army in 1954 and retired after 21 years. After the Army he served 20 years at the VAMC in Leavenworth and retired from there.
Jake met the love of his life, Saundra Jones Dragieff while he was stationed at Fort Leavenworth. They were married 64 years. They have two daughters, Melissa Kay Dragieff Alexander (Chuck) and Michele Renee Dragieff Armstrong (Lee). Two grandsons, Jacob Malec (Sarah) and Noah Malec, one granddaughter Saundra Renee Alexander and two great-grandsons, Zayden Malec and Ryder Malec, one great-granddaughter Quinn Malec.
Jacob was a long time member of the Church of the Open Door in Leavenworth where he served the Lord as Deacon and treasurer for many years. He enjoyed worshiping the Lord and serving in many capacities. He liked to fish and was an avid bow hunter and enjoyed hunting deer and turkey. He also enjoyed bowling and bowled on several leagues.
He enjoyed talking to people and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be at the Church of the Open Door Leavenworth (4800 S, 20th Street) on Friday, August 5 at 12 p.m. with Memorial service at 1 p.m.. Burial at the Leavenworth National Cemetery following the service.
