Lenny Eugene Oatney, 63, of Easton, Kan. passed away on December 30, 2022, at University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. He was born on April 28, 1959, in Leavenworth, Kan. He is the son of Dick L. and Alice D. (Reavis) Oatney. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1978. He worked many different jobs throughout the years including Select Products and the LV. Water Department. He also worked for various heavy construction companies and recently retired from Frontier Heritage at Fort Leavenworth. He was a member of Union 101 Heavy Equipment Operators and Easton Lions Club. He enjoyed raising cattle, fishing, hunting, family reunions, and helping his friends. He never met a stranger with whom he couldn’t strike up a conversation, but most of all loved (being with and) raising his family.
On October 16, 1999, Lenny married his wife, Rita (Wagner) Oatney. Together with his first wife Deborah (Ellingwood) and her husband, Curt Williams, they raised six children: Jeffrey (Kate) Oatney of Basehor, Jamie (Cameron) Richardson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Whitney (Jamie) Seifert of Leavenworth, Matthew Ransom (Jenny Delzeit) of Manhattan, Luke Oatney of Ft. Benning, Ga., and Holly Oatney of Easton. This was no small feat and couldn’t have been done without the help of many family and friends. He is most proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his nine grandchildren: Kyle, Kaden, Jasper, and Sawyer Richardson, Myra, Bryce, and Ella Seifert, and Madalyn and Mason Oatney.
Lenny is survived by his brother Dick (Patty) Oatney and sister Janet (Lee) Treft, both of Leavenworth, another brother Chris (Sandi) Oatney of Copperas Cove, Texas, sister-in-law Donna Oatney of Kansas City, Mo., many nieces, nephews, and greatnieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Dick and Alice Oatney and a brother David Oatney.
A special thank you to Brayden Haynes, Carl Langley, Chuck Monahan, Jim Lunsford, J.L. Day and Jerry Theis who helped with the farm during his illness.
A visitation with family will be held at St. Lawrence Church on March 25, 2023, from 4-6 p.m. with a dinner at the church hall to follow for all family and friends.
