Dannie Ray Phillips, 76, of Leavenworth, Kan. died Monday, January 30, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Leavenworth on January 12, 1947, to William N. and Margaret I. (Butler) Phillips.
On November 1, 1969, he married the love of his life, Rhonda (Oroke) Phillips. She survives at the home. Dannie is also survived by their two children, son, Alan (Suzanne) Phillips and daughter, Ranae (Mike) Sample both of Leavenworth; seven grandchildren, Makayla (Jeff) O’Donnell, Chase (Cheyenne) Sample, Makenzie Sample, Cole (Sarah) Sample, Riley Phillips, Carsen Phillips and Allie Phillips; four great-grandchildren, Brody, Ember, Stetson and a baby girl to come early April; a brother, Lonnie (Dorothy) Phillips; many (great) nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Dannie was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Dannie Mulnix; three brothers, Bill (Dorcille) Phillips, Calvin (Wanda) Phillips and Bennie (Marie) Phillips; a sister, Sharon (Larry) Childers; great nephew, Robbie Arevalo; and one granddaughter, Cheyanne Sample.
In his younger years, Dannie was involved in coaching youth sports as his children were growing up. As the years passed, he continued being an avid sports supporter of all his grandchildren.
He was an active member along with briefly serving as president of the Leavenworth Cruisers. He enjoyed cruise nights, car shows, and loved to build cars in his free time. Dannie owned Dan’s Autobody prior to opening Area Wide Glass and Mirrors that he owned and operated for 40 years. Most of all Dannie was a true family man. He loved spending time with his family at Perry Lake, sporting events, and around the table at family dinners. He cherished every moment, lived life to the fullest and danced any time had the chance with his wife Rhonda.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2023, at R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dannie Ray Phillips memorial scholarship fund.
